41 united territorial communities (UTCs) hosted local elections on December 11. For the first time the village, township and city leaders and council members were elected.
Vinnytsia oblast hosted the biggest number of elections of the community leaders. Also, voting was organized in Volyn, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil and Kharkiv oblasts.
The local elections met the legislative standards – OPORA civil network informed their monitoring results. Documented violations were not systematic.
Let us remember that the local councils are created in the biggest towns within a UTC. Such councils enable communities to manage their funds by themselves, and also to receive additional donations for development from the State Regional Development Fund and the central budget.
Many international organizations are ready to grant funds for local UTC projects. For example, to improve roads, infrastructure, to retrain the personnel, to repair schools, to purchase specialized machinery, etc.
The following elections of the community leaders will take place on December 18.
