In Ukraine there has been launched EU project “Support of police reform in Ukraine” (SPRU), aimed at improving cooperation of law enforcement officials with the public. The project budget is 6 million EUR, and it will be implemented by the Swedish police, the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) supported by the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM). Duration of initiative – is 18 months.
20 police departments in the Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv regions will participate in the project. They are to be equipped with modern computer systems, transport and logistics. The project also provides repair of intake police departments and the transfer of 15 police cars. Also, specialized trainings are planned, to be attended by 420 police officers.
The Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine Konstiantyn Bushuev noted that the departments participating in the project were selected according to the sociological researches, conducted in regions with the most tense background.
According to the interaction concept of police and community, advisory groups, including representatives of the local population, government, business and religious institutions, should be created.
