The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine did not support the Amendment, which could reactivate the tax militia powers. 194 deputies voted for the Amendment. As reported, this amendment was introduced by the Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Taxation and Customs Policy Nina Yuzhanina to the Draft Law “On amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine (concerning taxation of inheritance).” The Draft Law itself has been adopted on February, 23 at the second reading by 278 votes.
Earlier, the Ministry of Finance opposed the tax militia reactivation. Instead, the Ministry representatives insist on the need to create a financial police body to perform analytical functions rather than enforcement ones. In particular, the Minister of Finance Olexandr Danyliuk noted that the liquidation of economic departments of the enforcement bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Fiscal Service is a part of the tax reform. He appealed to the People’s Deputies to vote against the Amendment to the above Draft Law.
About 20 deputies blocked the rostrum during the consideration of the Draft Law, depriving the Amendment’s author Nina Yuzhanina of the opportunity to take the floor. Thus, she had to report on the Draft Law from her workplace.
At the same time, 50 people came to the Parliament building to protest against the tax militia reactivation.
