On Apr. 3, the National Reform Council under the President of Ukraine took a decision to recommend the Verkhovna Rada adopting the Law «On Education» until the end of the 6th session, that is no later than the end of July 2017. This was announced during a briefing dedicated to the results of the National Reform Council meeting “On education, safety, and welfare of children as a priority for development of the country”.
According to the Minister of Education and Science Liliya Grynevych, that is the Draft Law “On Education” which includes major changes necessary for full implementation of education reform. In particular, school is expected to give students not only knowledge but also the ability to apply them in practice, and values developing critical thinking.
School education will have three levels: four years of primary school, five years of basic and three years of profile high school. The last level of school education should help children to enter higher educational institutions and to prepare for independent life.
According to the results of sociological research, 75.6% of the population understand the need for reform in Ukraine’s secondary education. At the same time, Ukraine ranks only 38th position out of 76 countries in the international ranking of schools, Liliya Grynevych noted.
