On June, 8 the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading the law “On Energy Efficiency Fund”. The document provides for the establishment of a state institution, aimed at supporting and encouraging initiatives on the implementation of energy efficiency and energy saving. The decision was supported by 278 deputies.
Energy Efficiency Fund will provide partial reimbursement for the implementation of the following measures:
• Thermal modernization;
• Effective monitoring and management systems;
• Installation of highly efficient heating and cooling systems and equipment;
• Other measures, reducing energy consumption.
According to the Vice Prime Minister – the Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing Hennadii Zubko, the creation of energy efficiency fund gives an opportunity to reduce spending on modernization of residential buildings up to 50% as well as remove barriers to external support and funding of energy efficiency in Ukraine.
“Energy Efficiency Fund – is a key tool of the comprehensive energy efficiency reform. It provides people with financial support and technical solutions which will reduce energy consumption and utility costs”.- said Vice Prime Minister.
Creation of the Fund should contribute to the implementation of Ukraine’s international obligations in energy efficiency, reducing carbon dioxide emissions within the framework of the Paris Agreement, implementation of legal norms of the European Union and the Treaty establishing the Energy Community.
Also, Hennadii Zubko stated, the European Union has reaffirmed its readiness to financially support the Fund of energy efficiency.
